There is a quality to candlelight that no lamp has ever managed to copy. It moves. It warms the color of a room. It makes people at a table slow down a little without anyone suggesting it. That is most of the reason candles are still in our houses long after we stopped needing them to see by.

Our natural candles are made from 100% beeswax and a cotton wick. Colored styles use the same 100% beeswax base with certified candle dye added during production. No paraffin, no soy, no filler wax, no fragrance oil. The warm golden glow and the faint honey aroma both come from the wax itself, left there by the bees rather than added later. Beeswax is also the densest of the common candle waxes, so it burns slowly, evenly and cleanly, and a slim taper lasts far longer than its width suggests.

  • Nothing is added to the wax

    A beeswax candle is one material and a cotton wick. There is no petroleum base, no filler wax, no artificial fragrance and no chemicals blended in to make it pour better.

    Beeswax is the densest of the common candle waxes, so the same weight of wax gives you noticeably more burn time than soy or paraffin.

  • It burns clean

    Very little soot, which means no gray marks creeping up the wall behind a candle you light every evening.

Most candle trouble in a house with animals comes from what was added to the wax, not from the flame. Synthetic fragrance oils, synthetic surface dyes and the soot from a paraffin wick are what a cat sleeping nearby is better off without.

Are Beeswax Candles Really Dripless and Smokeless?

Under the right conditions, yes, and those conditions are worth knowing. Beeswax has a higher melting point than soy or paraffin, so the pool of melted wax stays small and gets consumed as the candle burns. Drips and smoke almost always come from one of three things: a draft, a candle leaning in a loose holder, or a wick that was not trimmed. Fix those and a beeswax taper will burn clean the whole way down.

How Can You Tell If a Candle Is Real Beeswax?

Smell it unlit. Real beeswax has a faint honey scent at room temperature, while a blended candle usually smells of nothing at all until fragrance is added to it. Look at the color too, since natural beeswax is never bright white, and a pure white candle has either been bleached or dyed. The reliable check is the label: a candle described as a beeswax blend can legally contain very little of it, so look for 100% beeswax stated outright.

Why Are Beeswax Candles More Expensive Than Soy or Paraffin?

Because the raw material is scarce and the method is slow. Bees produce a small amount of wax relative to honey, so beeswax costs several times what soy or paraffin does per pound. Hand dipping adds to it, since a taper is built up in layers over many passes rather than poured into a mold in one. The offset is burn time: beeswax is denser and lasts longer, so the cost per hour of light is closer than the shelf price suggests.

What Is the Difference Between Natural and White Beeswax Candles?

Color, and only color. The natural tapers are undyed, so the amber shade is the wax itself and varies a little from batch to batch. The white ones are the same 100% beeswax base with a certified candle dye blended in before dipping. Beeswax is never naturally white, so any white beeswax candle has been either bleached or colored, and ours is colored rather than bleached. Both burn identically.

Are Beeswax Candles Safe for Cats and Dogs?

Yes. What usually makes a candle risky around animals is the added fragrance, and essential oils in particular, which cats metabolize poorly and dogs with sensitive noses react to. Our beeswax candles contain no fragrance oils, no perfume and no essential oils of any kind, there is no paraffin in the wax, and the wax itself is non toxic. Nothing is being released into the air that a pet needs to leave the room to avoid. The ordinary flame precautions still apply: keep the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface where a tail cannot reach it, and never leave it burning unattended.
