How to Burn a Beeswax Pillar Candle Evenly

To keep this pillar burning evenly and dripless, follow a few simple steps:

  • Trim the wick

    Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before every burn.

  • Burn 2+ hours per session

    Burn at least 2 hours per session so the wax pool reaches the outer edge (this prevents tunneling).

  • Keep the walls even

    Gently press the warm outer edge inward to keep the walls even.

  • Use a pillar plate

    Burn on a heat-safe pillar plate, away from drafts.

  • No enclosed glass

    Not for use inside a hurricane or enclosed glass container.

  • Never leave unattended

    Never leave a burning candle unattended.

None. A pillar stands on its own, so just set it on any flat, heat-safe surface or a pillar plate to catch any wax.

How do you fix a beeswax pillar candle that has tunneled?

Next time, burn it long enough for the wax pool to reach the edge. To rescue a tunneled pillar, wrap the top in foil for the first 30 minutes so the raised outer rim melts back level.
