Candles
What are Closterra candles made of?
A 100% beeswax base sourced from Spain, paired with a cotton wick. Natural yellow tapers are undyed. White, black, red, green, blue, and purple tapers are colored throughout with certified German candle dyes made specifically for candles. There is no paraffin, soy, or filler wax, and no added fragrance.
Are your candles really 100% beeswax?
Yes. The wax base in every taper, in every color, is 100% beeswax, never blended with paraffin, soy, or filler wax. On our colored tapers the only thing added is a certified German candle dye blended into the beeswax before dipping. The dye colors the wax; it does not change what the wax is.
Are Closterra candles unscented?
There is no added fragrance, perfume, fragrance oil, or essential oil in any candle. What you notice is the natural, subtle honey aroma of real beeswax, a little more noticeable in the natural yellow tapers. So they are unscented in the sense of no added fragrance, with only the wax's own light honey note.
Where are your candles made?
Closterra is a family-owned brand. The beeswax is sourced from Spain, hand-dipped one thin layer at a time at our family workshop in Lithuania, and then hand-packed in the United States.
What makes a thin taper different from a regular dinner taper?
Our tapers are intentionally slim, roughly 0.20 to 0.33 inch in diameter, which is narrower than a standard dinner taper. The slender shape suits church, altar, and specialty holders. Because the format is thin, every product page lists the exact length, diameter, and holder guidance for that candle.
Are your candles safe for homes with pets, children?
Yes, and it comes down to what is not in them. Our tapers are a 100% beeswax base with a cotton wick: no paraffin, no synthetic fragrance, no filler additives, so nothing is released into the air that a pet or a small child needs to avoid. The only thing added to the colored styles is a certified, candle-grade dye made specifically for candles, blended through the wax; the natural tapers have nothing added at all. Used as directed, with the usual care around an open flame, they suit homes with pets and children.
Do beeswax candles burn cleaner than paraffin or soy?
Beeswax is a natural, petroleum-free wax. Our tapers contain no paraffin, soy, or filler wax, so paired with a cotton wick they give a clean, steady, quiet flame.
Why does the natural yellow color vary from candle to candle?
Beeswax is a natural material, so its shade and aroma can vary slightly between batches. Natural yellow can range from soft gold to a deeper amber, and the honey note can be gentler or stronger. These variations are part of the material, not a flaw.
Is the white candle naturally white?
No. White is a colored taper too, made with a white candle dye. It is not naturally white or bleached. Every white, black, red, green, blue, and purple taper is colored throughout with certified German candle dyes, so the color runs through the whole candle with no pale core.
How long do your candles burn?
Burn time depends on the size. Current thin tapers offer roughly 30 minutes up to about 2 hours and 30 minutes of candlelight. Each size lists its own approximate burn time, since a shorter taper suits a brief pause and a longer one suits a shared meal or a longer evening.
What sizes do you offer?
Our thin tapers come in several lengths, approximately 6.3, 6.5, 7.3, 8, 10.4, and 11.6 inches, with diameters from about 0.20 to 0.33 inch, plus a beeswax pillar. Exact length, diameter, and holder guidance are shown on each product page so you can choose the right fit before ordering.
Using & Care
How do I get the best, cleanest burn?
Place the candle upright in a secure, heat-safe holder on a level surface. Trim the cotton wick to about a quarter inch before each burn, and keep the flame away from drafts, fans, and vents. A steady, draft-free setting gives the longest and cleanest burn.
Do I need to trim the wick?
Yes. Trim the cotton wick to roughly a quarter inch before every burn. A trimmed wick gives a steadier flame and less smoke.
Are your tapers dripless and smokeless?
In the right conditions, they burn cleanly with very little drip or smoke: kept upright in a snug holder, with a trimmed wick, away from moving air. No thin taper is guaranteed completely dripless, though. A tilt or a draft is almost always what causes dripping.
My candle is dripping. How do I stop it?
Check three things: keep the taper straight and upright, use a holder that grips the base snugly, and move it away from drafts, fans, and vents. A leaning candle or moving air is the usual reason a taper drips.
Why did my candle tunnel or burn down one side?
That is almost always a draft or a candle that is leaning. Keep the taper upright in a level holder and away from any airflow so the flame burns evenly.
There is a whitish film on my candle. Is it spoiled?
No. That soft white film is called bloom, and it is a natural sign of real, unrefined beeswax as it ages. It is completely harmless. To bring back the shine, buff the candle gently with a soft cloth or warm the surface briefly with a hair dryer on low.
What holder should I use, and what if my taper is too thin for it?
Because our tapers are slim, roughly 0.20 to 0.33 inch, they fit thin-taper and church-style holders best. If your holder is wider, steady the base with a little candle adhesive or a taper collar, or choose a holder made for thin candles. The diameter is listed on each product page.
How do I burn candles safely around pets and children?
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it away from pets, children, drafts, and anything that can catch fire, in a stable heat-safe holder on a level surface, and do not move it while it is lit or the wax is hot. The beeswax base, cotton wick, and lack of added fragrance make these a thoughtful choice for pet homes, but open-flame safety always applies.
Do beeswax candles expire, and how should I store them?
Beeswax has a very long shelf life, so the candles do not really expire. Store them upright, so the thin tapers stay straight, in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and heat. A little bloom may appear over time, which is normal and easily buffed away.
My taper is slightly bent. Can I straighten it?
Yes, gently. Warm the taper with your hands or a few seconds of low heat until it flexes, then roll it straight on a flat surface and let it cool. Never force a cold taper, as it can snap.
Is the faint honey smell normal?
Yes. That light honey aroma comes from the beeswax itself, not from any added fragrance. It is usually a touch stronger in the natural yellow tapers.
Orders & Shipping
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. We offer free standard shipping to the contiguous United States on orders with a subtotal of $49 or more, calculated after discounts and before tax. For orders below that, shipping options and rates are shown at checkout.
How soon will my order ship?
Orders are processed and shipped within 1 to 2 business days, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Processing time is separate from carrier transit time, and you will get a shipping confirmation email as soon as your order is on its way.
How long does delivery take?
Once your order ships, standard ground delivery takes about 2 to 5 business days, expedited about 2 to 3 business days, and express about 1 to 2 business days. These are estimates and can be affected by destination, carrier delays, weather, or peak holiday periods.
Which carriers do you use?
We ship with USPS and UPS. The carrier and service depend on the destination and the shipping option chosen at checkout. Orders to PO Boxes and APO or FPO addresses ship via USPS.
Where do you ship?
We currently ship within the United States. Orders to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and other US territories may take longer to arrive, and their rates are calculated at checkout. The free-shipping threshold applies to the contiguous United States.
How do I track my order?
We email you a tracking number as soon as your order ships. Please allow a little time for the carrier's tracking page to update after the label is created.
My package arrived damaged, or seems lost. What do I do?
If your order arrives damaged, contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the item and packaging. If tracking shows no delivery and the package appears lost, contact us within 7 days after the estimated delivery date. We will review it, file any carrier claim, and help arrange a replacement or refund.
Can I change or cancel my order?
We may be able to change or cancel an order before it ships, so contact us as soon as possible with your order number and the change you need. Once an order has shipped, it can no longer be changed or canceled.
I entered the wrong shipping address. Can you fix it?
Contact us as soon as possible and we will do our best to update the address before the order ships. Once an order has shipped, we are not able to correct the address, and we cannot take responsibility for delays or losses caused by an incorrect or incomplete address.
Returns
What is your return policy?
We accept returns within 14 calendar days after delivery, based on the carrier's tracking record. Any item may be returned if it is undamaged, and sets, bundles, and multipacks must be returned complete. The customer pays return shipping. Please contact us before sending anything back and wait for the return address and instructions.
How do I start a return or exchange?
Email us with the subject line Return Request and your order number. Tell us which items you want to return or exchange, the reason, and whether you would prefer a return or an exchange, and include photos if the item is damaged, defective, or incorrect. Wait for the return address and instructions before shipping anything.
What cannot be returned?
Items that have been burned, used, trimmed, altered, returned incomplete, or otherwise damaged by the customer cannot be returned. This does not apply to items that arrive damaged, defective, incorrect, or materially different from their description.
Can I exchange for a different size or color?
Yes. Eligible items can be exchanged for another available size, color, or style within 14 days. The replacement ships after we receive and inspect the original item and is subject to availability. For a preference-based exchange the customer pays return shipping, while we cover it if we sent an incorrect, damaged, or defective item.
My candle arrived damaged, defective, or wrong. What now?
Contact us within 7 calendar days of delivery with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos of the item and packaging. Keep the item and packaging while we review the claim, and after verification we will provide a suitable replacement or refund. If a return is needed, we cover reasonable return shipping.
The taper does not fit my holder. Can I return it?
If the candle matches its listed dimensions, this is treated as a standard preference return, so the customer pays return shipping. Many of our tapers are intentionally thin, so please check the listed diameter before ordering. This does not apply to a candle that is damaged, unusable, or materially misdescribed.
When will I get my refund?
Approved refunds go back to your original payment method within 3 to 5 business days after we receive and inspect the return. A refund generally covers the amount paid for the returned item, after discounts, plus applicable tax. Your bank may need a little extra posting time. Original shipping charges are non-refundable unless we were at fault.
Are natural beeswax variations considered defects?
No. Minor variations in beeswax shade, natural honey aroma, texture, finish, and dimensions are normal characteristics of a handmade natural product and are not defects.
Subscriptions
How does a Closterra subscription work?
You choose the tapers you love and a delivery frequency that suits you, and we ship them automatically on that schedule, charging your saved payment method each time until you cancel. You stay in control and can adjust your plan between deliveries.
Can I skip, pause, or change a delivery?
Yes. Before your next renewal date you can skip a delivery, pause your plan, change how often it arrives, swap the product, or update your shipping and payment details from your account.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel anytime before your next renewal date from your account or by contacting us. Canceling stops all future renewals. It does not cancel an order that has already been processed or shipped.
When am I charged, and when does it renew?
Your payment method is charged at each renewal on the frequency you chose when you signed up. You can change the timing before the cutoff for your next order.
Do subscription orders get free shipping?
Any free-shipping benefit for a subscription order is shown with the offer at checkout and follows our current shipping terms.
What happens if a product goes out of stock?
If a subscribed product becomes unavailable, we may pause or cancel the affected plan and let you know. We will not swap in a materially different product without your approval.
If I return a subscription order, does that cancel my subscription?
No. Returning a single order does not stop future renewals. The subscription needs to be managed or canceled separately before its next renewal date.
