The black comes from a certified German candle dye made specifically for candle production, worked into the wax during the dipping process rather than applied as a surface coat. Because the color is built in layer by layer as each candle is dipped, it runs all the way through. Trim the candle down and the cross-section is just as black as the outside. Trim the Wick
Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before lighting. A longer wick can produce a taller flame, smoke, and uneven burning.
Check the Holder
Use a sturdy, heat-resistant holder that fits the listed diameter and keeps the thin taper completely upright.
Avoid Drafts
Burn in a ventilated room, away from windows, fans, and vents. Moving air causes flickering, smoke, and dripping.
Keep Flames Apart
Place burning skinny tapers at least 3 inches apart. Keep them within sight and away from children, pets, and anything flammable.
Stop Before the Holder
Extinguish the candle before the flame reaches the holder. Use a snuffer and let the wax and holder cool before touching.
Store Flat and Cool
Keep unused tapers flat, away from heat and direct sun, so the slim wax does not bend.

Do black candles produce more soot than lighter ones?

No. Soot comes from the wick and the air around it, not from the color of the wax. A wick left long, or a candle standing in moving air, will smoke whatever shade it is. Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before each burn, keep the candle upright and out of any draft, and it burns cleanly.

Does the black dye change how the candle burns or how it smells?

It does not. The color comes from a certified German candle dye made specifically for candle production, worked into the wax in the amount it carries without affecting the flame. Burn time, flame size and the faint natural honey aroma of the beeswax are the same as on the undyed candles. Nothing is added for scent.
