How to Use and Care for Thin Beeswax Taper Candles

Thin beeswax tapers burn best when kept upright, correctly trimmed, and protected from drafts. Follow these steps to maintain a steady flame, reduce smoke and dripping, protect the slim wax from bending, and use every candle safely.

  • Trim the Wick

    Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before lighting. A longer wick can produce a taller flame, smoke, and uneven burning.

  • Check the Holder

    Use a sturdy, heat-resistant holder that fits the listed diameter and keeps the thin taper completely upright.

  • Avoid Drafts

    Burn in a ventilated room, away from windows, fans, and vents. Moving air causes flickering, smoke, and dripping.

  • Keep Flames Apart

    Place burning skinny tapers at least 3 inches apart. Keep them within sight and away from children, pets, and anything flammable.

  • Stop Before the Holder

    Extinguish the candle before the flame reaches the holder. Use a snuffer and let the wax and holder cool before touching.

  • Store Flat and Cool

10.4″ Natural Yellow Beeswax Taper Candles: Questions and Answers

How does the natural yellow color read on a longer taper like this one, in daylight and once it is lit?

Unlit, the 10.4-inch length shows more of the wax's own color than a shorter taper would, and that warm amber-gold is easy to see standing in a holder before anyone strikes a match. Once lit, the flame draws the color toward a deeper, honeyed gold at the base and a paler, almost translucent tone near the top. Because the candles are undyed, individual tapers may sit slightly paler or richer beside each other, and on a table with several burning at once that gentle variation reads as natural rather than mismatched.

A soft white film has appeared on my candles after a few weeks in the cupboard. Is something wrong with them?

No. That film is called bloom, and it forms on the surface of pure beeswax as the wax settles over time. It is a normal characteristic of the material and appears on stored candles more than on ones you burn straight away. Wipe it off with a soft dry cloth if you prefer a clean surface, or leave it. It makes no difference to how the candle burns.
