11.6-Inch Natural Beeswax Hanukkah Candle Details

Each taper is 100% undyed beeswax on a cotton wick, hand dipped, with nothing added: no color, no fragrance oils, no perfume. The warm amber shade and the faint honey note are the wax itself. Across ninety tapers you will see a little variation in tone from one to the next, which is normal in an uncolored wax and a sign it was never dyed.

Long Enough for the Mitzvah

Hanukkah asks that each light burn for at least half an hour after nightfall. At about two and a half hours per candle, these clear that with room to spare, so no flame gives out early, even on the eighth night with the whole row alight. The height matters when two lamps are going at once: at 11.6 inches the tapers stand well clear of the branches, so the flames sit apart and burn evenly rather than leaning together.

How to Use and Care for Beeswax Hanukkah Candles

Thin beeswax tapers burn best when kept upright, correctly trimmed, and protected from drafts. With two menorahs going at once there is more to keep an eye on, and more candles to put away afterward. Follow these steps through all eight nights.

  • Trim the wick.

    Trim the wick. Trim to about a quarter of an inch before lighting. A longer wick gives a taller flame, smoke and uneven burning.

  • Seat each candle firmly.

    A tall taper needs to stand completely upright. If the cup is wider than the candle, warm the base for a moment in a flame and press it in, or drip a little melted wax into the cup first.

  • Give two lamps room.

    Keep menorahs at least a few inches apart so the heat of one does not soften the candles in the other, and keep both clear of a moving curtain.

  • Watch the window.

    A window is the traditional place for the menorah and also the draftiest. Close it before lighting.

  • Keep the lamps stable.

    Stand each menorah on a heat-resistant surface, away from anything flammable, in sight and out of reach of children and pets.

  • Store the rest flat and cool.

    Keep unused tapers flat on a straight surface, away from heat and sunlight. Stored that way the leftovers hold their shape until the following winter.

Why Would I Need 90 Hanukkah Candles?

Will These Tall Tapers Sit Firmly in a Menorah?

In most lamps, yes. The base measures about 0.33 inch against the 3/8 that standard menorah cups are cut for, so it seats snugly without help. What deserves a check is the height: at 11.6 inches these stand well above the row, and with ninety candles you will be lighting two lamps at once, so test one candle in each before the first night. If a cup runs wide, soften the base briefly in a flame and press it in.

Can I Keep the Leftover Hanukkah Candles for Next Year?

Yes. Beeswax keeps well and does not go stale the way a scented candle does. Store the remaining tapers flat on a straight surface, away from heat and direct sun, and they will hold their shape until the next festival. A pale bloom may form on the surface over the year, which is natural to beeswax and buffs off with a soft cloth.
